Local charities in Winchester are highlighting the difference that gifts left in wills can make to people’s lives, both now and in the future. At Winchester Go LD, we see that impact every week.

Winchester Go LD supports adults with learning disabilities to live connected, confident and fulfilling lives. For many of our members, community is everything. A safe place to socialise. A chance to try new activities. An opportunity to build friendships and feel valued.
Our sessions range from social evenings and life-skills workshops to creative activities and community events. They may seem simple on the surface, but their impact runs deep. They reduce isolation. They build confidence. They create belonging.
For many families, that support is transformative. As one parent explains: “Winchester Go LD is a lifeline for the local learning disability community. Without it, many would risk becoming isolated and invisible. It gives people the chance to feel valued and live happy, fulfilling lives.”
Many adults with learning disabilities experience loneliness. Opportunities to meet others, develop independence and be active members of the community are not always easy to access. Winchester Go LD exists to change that.
A legacy gift, no matter the size, can help secure that future.

It could help fund weekly social groups where friendships are formed. It could support life-skills sessions that build confidence in cooking, budgeting and travel. It could allow us to keep activities affordable, so cost is never a barrier to participation.
The impact of legacy giving goes beyond individual sessions. It helps create long-term stability. It allows small local charities like ours to plan ahead, respond to changing needs and grow sustainably. It gives families reassurance that support and community will continue to exist for their loved ones in years to come.
Legacy gifts are not just about money. They are about values. They are about choosing to invest in inclusion, dignity and opportunity. They are about helping to build a Winchester where everyone belongs.
For some, leaving a gift in their will is a way of saying thank you to a cause that has touched their family. For others, it is about shaping the kind of community they want to see in the future. Every gift, whatever its size, helps strengthen the foundations of our work.

Winchester Go LD is proud to be part of the social fabric of the city. Our members use local venues, volunteer, attend community events and contribute to Winchester life. Supporting us is supporting a more inclusive city.
Legacy Action Week invites us to have open and hopeful conversations about the future. A single decision made today could help ensure that adults with learning disabilities in Winchester continue to have opportunities, friendships and support for generations to come.
Because real impact is not just about buildings or programmes. It is about people. It is about belonging. And it lasts far beyond a lifetime.
